Senior Oracle DBA

dsp’s Consultants offer expert help with formulating strategy, quantifying business benefits, identifying opportunities and implementing solutions that best meet customer requirements using the Oracle Software Stack.

The DBA will be responsible for assisting customers in the architecture, design and implementation of solutions based on Oracle database, often in complex technical environments. As well as contributing to new solutions, our Consultants are involved in the troubleshooting of existing customer deployments, providing issue resolution and performance tuning expertise, and the production of “next steps” recommendations for removing the root cause of issues. Our consultants are high calibre individuals, who are able to formulate commercially aware designs and articulate these effectively to our clients.

The Consultants also provide production support for mission critical systems and are part of the on-call rota.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Consultant: Represent dsp onsite at customers as the advisor, architect and implementer.
  • Work with customers and delivery partners to help define and deliver high impact solutions based on the Oracle platform.
  • Act as lead-consultant to our clients in varied engagements which could range from a 2-day piece of consultancy to a 3-month project.
  • Engage in database projects ranging from upgrades to performance tuning and migration to Azure, disaster recovery and high availability.
  • Work with management when necessary to resolve sensitive account issues and to effectively manage customer incidents.
  • Proactively work with the sales team and provide pre-sales.
  • Managed Services Support: Maintain third line support for Managed Clients, responding to tickets and support functions.
  • Assist with support issues as and when required via the Service Desk.
  • Understand and help with the client installs of dsp’s enterprise monitoring solution (UIM).
  • On Call Support: The role will carry an on call element.
  • Keep Oracle certification up-to-date

Essential Experience

  • Database system experience, with direct practitioner-level involvement in system architecture, design, implementation, operation and troubleshooting (or most of these)
  • Consulting/services experience – i.e. the direct provision of technical thought leadership and services to external teams, stakeholders or customers
  • Responsibility/accountability for the successful support of key aspects of a large or complex database solution

Primary Technical Skills

  • Oracle Relational Database administration, ideally ranging from version 10g to 12c
  • Architecture, design and implementation of highly-available database solutions such and RAC and FailSafe
  • Database & Application performance tuning
  • Understanding and application of database design techniques
  • Transact-SQL programming skills
  • Understanding of Windows and Unix platforms with some OS administration experience
  • Appreciation for Hardware components
