Our client is a famous chain of luxury department stores, known for being a top shopping destination. They are dedicated to offering an outstanding shopping experience, focusing on excellent service, high quality, and exclusivity.
They required advanced e-commerce technology and solutions to stay competitive. They selected the Javelin Intershop platform with Oracle Database for top performance. To maintain their database, they opted to use DSP's services.

As a retailer with a massive online presence, our customer requires the latest cutting-edge e-commerce/mobile commerce to preserve its place at the top of its industry. Therefore, they adopted a best-of-breed e-commerce platform, Javelin Intershop, which required leading database technology in the form of Oracle Database. To maintain peak performance and reliability, they enlisted DSP's expertise for consultancy and managed services to ensure their database remained up to date with the latest advancements in Oracle technology.
Recently, our customer migrated an in-house API-based microservices platform and data warehouse (previously hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS)) to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). They saw GCP was maturing rapidly as a Cloud platform and recognised the enhancements in GCP's portfolio. They wanted to run their platform in Kubernetes on a managed cluster, which AWS didn't offer as an option, whereas Google did and suggested a Proof-of-Concept. The retailer was also keen for the whole solution to be a managed service, relieving the workload from their staff.
Our customer’s Javelin Intershop system was implemented with a co-location infrastructure provider, and they decided to migrate that as well so that all their digital infrastructure was to be hosted in GCP.
As a trusted Oracle partner, DSP were asked to manage the Proof-of-Concept for the Oracle Database in GCP to ensure Oracle would certify this as a solution, working very closely together and helping the retailer to discount other Cloud providers (such as Microsoft Azure) and benefit from having the database adjacent to the application servers (already residing in GCP) for performance (with the lowest possible latency), cost-effectiveness and ease of administration. This is important as the ERP/e-commerce system manages the online basket & checkout function, and any latency can be costly for online retailers.
DSP worked hand in hand with our customer's internal engineering staff and infrastructure support partners to complete the testing and eventual migration of live systems to GCP.
Our customer loved the tools and solutions on offer and migrated everything to GCP, moving entirely away from AWS (since that was completed, they have negotiated a longer-term, three-year agreement with GCP). Now their vertical database, reporting, microservices and monitoring, are all on GCP and the agreement provides maximum cost-effectiveness including training.
DSP now manage and maintain our customer’s Oracle Databases within GCP on a 24x7x365 basis as an Oracle Managed Service.
As well as Tableau, our customer is now also using GCP BigQuery for real-time analysis of customer behaviour analytics, with SnowPlow feeding data for offline analytics too and they hope to use Google forecasting algorithms more and more in the future.
