North Yorkshire Council Oracle Environment Optimisation and Modernisation

Multiple challenges came with the project, which left many councils still dealing with the global effects of COVID-19. The lasting effects on the manufacturing of certain parts, along with the sudden drop in the value of the pound, meant that action needed to be taken quickly.

The expected timelines and shipping delays meant the North Yorkshire team had to work efficiently to ensure the migration of the Solaris zones to new hardware was completed well in advance of the LGR deadline. 

DSP, as an Oracle specialist, had a team of dedicated Oracle database consultants who worked side by side with the North Yorkshire Team in addressing these multifaceted challenges:

• Meticulously migrated the Oracle Solaris Zones onto the new system, applying necessary patches and coordinating tests with local support teams within the desired time frames.
• DSPs accredited Oracle license consultants completed an internal like-for-like Oracle license assessment of the whole estate.
• Worked as a conduit between the council and Oracle, leveraging a 20+ year relationship to make sure to squeeze every % discount to benefit the council and not members of the sales teams.
• Provide 24*7 365 Oracle DB support for the Oracle DBs underpinning their EBS applications. DSP works hand-in-glove as part of its team, focusing on knowledge transfer to its newly appointed on-site DBA.

Due to the tight time frames, it was a delicate and complex project with a substantial amount of risk to be managed. Consequently, DSP ensured the project spanned various stages, from design workshops to project management, guaranteeing a smooth transition from purchase, build, and going live.
