DSP provides Northern Ireland Water with
Oracle APEX Training

Northern Ireland Water equips its in-house developers with expert skills through DSP's Oracle APEX training course.
APEX Training Programme
Overview
Northern Ireland Water, established in 2007, is a government-owned company that provides clean drinking water and wastewater services to over 840,000 customers, treating and delivering millions of litres of water daily.
In 2008, after adopting Oracle to host their software, they required a development tool. Oracle APEX was selected as it is a fully supported, no-cost feature of Oracle database, and they did not have to rely on software installs to use it.

Northern Ireland Water’s development team initially received Oracle APEX training when they first started using APEX, however as the team expanded, the new staff lacked the expertise of the existing team members, which hindered development practices. This knowledge gap also meant they were using online spreadsheets, and there was a lack of data validation processes, increasing the risk of inaccuracies.
Northern Ireland Water sought a third-party provider to deliver training for all developers to address these knowledge gaps and data management challenges. This included both new staff members and existing team members who required a refresh on the latest functionalities of Oracle APEX.
Northern Ireland Water selected DSP to deliver the needed training due to their extensive experience with Oracle APEX and their syllabus, which aligned with Northern Ireland’s requirements compared to alternative courses and DSP’s regional presence, meaning they could provide on-site training.
As most of the team was unfamiliar with Oracle APEX, DSP provided Northern Ireland Water with our foundation training course, designed for anyone wanting to learn how to create applications using the core development principles of Oracle APEX. The course covered all the key elements and features essential for successful development within the APEX environment. This ensured the whole team had a core skillset, enabling them to confidently work with Oracle APEX and continue to build on this knowledge.
The Oracle APEX training course equipped Northern Ireland Water's development team with the necessary skills and knowledge to confidently manage and develop applications using the latest version of APEX and address previous data management challenges. As a result of the training, the team were able to transition from siloed data in spreadsheets and web sheets to a structured format within APEX: this enhanced data accessibility, security, and visibility across the organisation.
The team has leveraged their newfound expertise to develop and improve applications. Additionally, they have adopted the Oracle APEX Universal Themes application, recommended by DSP, to assist their development process. Overall, the combined benefits of Oracle APEX and the training course have resulted in unified and secure data management, along with the in-house capability to develop and deploy APEX applications effectively.
Knowledge
The APEX training program equipped Northern Ireland Water's team with an understanding of the core development principles and the most up-to-date knowledge of APEX. This ensured they could create and support the company's applications without the need for a third party.
Innovation
The successful training course enabled Northern Ireland Water's developers to confidently build applications that improve data accuracy, accessibility, and visibility across the organisation. Additionally, they can now fully utilise the tool to innovate and continue to add value to the business.
