UK Shared Business Services (UKSBS) are a leading public sector shared business service provider, owned by the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the Department of Business and Trade and UK Research and Innovation.
UKSBS provide a range of Finance, HR and Payroll, Procurement, and Business IT services to over 25,000 civil and public servants.

UKSBS is transforming their digital infrastructure to provide ever increasing value to their clients. While on that journey, UKSBS needs to keep the current Oracle platform resilient and secure to deliver the critical business activities their clients and users rely on.
With Premier Support for the current Oracle platform coming to an end, UKSBS procured a trusted Oracle partner to support their experienced in-house Oracle support team with delivering a smooth and efficient upgrade to the current platform.
UKSBS selected DSP following a procurement procedure using the Government G-Cloud Framework.
Planning and the delivery of early technical work was underway when DSP joined the UKSBS project team. We provided project assurance, functional insight, and DBA expertise during the early phases and flexed around the Machinery of Government changes announced in February 2023 when delivery had to shift to accommodate evolving priorities. We supported UKSBS through project replanning and migration by providing:
- Our shared, proven methodology for this type of upgrade from the outset.
- An upgrade assessment outlining the customisations and complexities and proposed project plans and timelines based on this assessment.
- Trial migration plans and technology touch points.
- Three trial migrations ahead of the final live upgrade.
- Environment plans and cloning procedures.
Insight from the upgrade assessment was incorporated into the UKSBS project plan in the analysis and design phase providing a great foundation to work from. We helped to reduce the risk profile on the project by providing valuable information upfront rather than during trial migrations.
A key success factor was the mutual respect of ownership, expertise and collaboration between UKSBS and DSP throughout planning and delivery. This collaboration ensured a smooth upgrade, resulting in a genuine partnership and full knowledge sharing throughout the project.
The upgrade project ran smoothly from start to finish and was completed on time and budget.
